02. What is the POPI Act?
Similar to GDPR, the South African POPI Act aims to encourage the protection of personal information that is processed by both public and private bodies.
To do this, the Act introduces certain conditions that will establish the minimum requirements that businesses must comply with when processing personal information. The Act also provides rights to people when it comes to unsolicited electronic communications. The POPI commencement date is 1 July 2020 with a grace period of one year starting from the commencement date.
03 What is “liveness” and “liveness detection”?
In the identity and biometrics space, Liveness Detection is an AI computer’s ability to determine that it is interacting with a physically present human being and not an inanimate spoof artefact. Spoofing is a common way for fraud to occur in todays digital world and all customer onboarding process should contain liveness detection algorithms in order to offer a safe and secure process.
